How to Create the Bed of your Dreams – Master Bedroom Progress

In the last 8 years, Jay and I have moved 8 times- can you believe that?! Let me tell you, I’m beyond hoping to stay put in the farmhouse for the foreseeable future. In each of these homes, we had a room that always took priority over all others. With our first two homes, it was really the outdoor space that overlooked the lake, in every house from then on, it was the kid’s rooms. If you’re a parent, I’m sure you can relate to this question- what really is a master bedroom?

For us, it was always an afterthought to the rest of our home. A hodge-podge of furniture retired from the other rooms of our home or pieces I had grabbed with every good intention of flipping. Bedding was always just whatever I found during a good sale and don’t even get me started on the mattress that we used up until recently. A King sized pillowtop mattress that Jay had from before we had met. I swear that thing weighed as much as our sectional sofa. Now, with this move I was determined to have a bedroom space where we walked in and instantly felt relaxed. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still one of the last spaces to get our attention, but we are in love with how its coming together!

My goal for the room was a mix of old and new. Classic and Modern. I wanted mixed wood tones, and a lot of texture. I still have quite a few decisions to make to finish the space, but we will get there in a little bit!

Do you know when you’re browsing a magazine or a website or a really great instagram feed or pinterest board and you see one of those amazing fluffy beds? Like one that looks like laying on those blankets would be what laying on a cloud would be like? THAT was my goal. I found so many websites with various bedding styles and so many different reviews but when I discovered The Company Store while browsing my Instagram feed, I knew I found my dream bedding!

I have always loved the look of all white bedding, but Jay has always thought it was too plain. So texture in our bedding was key for me, and just for him, I brought in some more neutrals. There are three different textures of white on this bed which just gives it such a perfect, clean, textured look.

Let’s talk bedding basics. When it comes to pillows, Jay prefers something a little more firm, whereas I prefer something so soft and squishy. The Company Store has the most incredible selection of down and down alternative pillows. They even offer sport/specialty pillows- there is literally something for everyone! I think finding the perfect down comforter is super important as well, there are so many factors that go into finding one that is the right temperature and right weight- down comforters are NOT one size fits all. We found so many great options in comforters from The Company Store website! If you’re not someone who likes duvet covers, they have a great variety of color selections too!

Now let’s talk sheets and blankets. It’s all about the details. The texture. The feel. The Company Store sheets are the best I have ever owned. You REALLY get what you pay for and I never thought sheets could make such a monumental difference in how I sleep but y’all, my goodness, they do. For blankets, I opted for the organic cotton blankets. We went with gray for between the sheets and duvet and for white to be folded at the foot of the bed, on top of the gorgeous white, textured coverlet. They also had a super cute selection of decorative pillows that allowed me to still have the exact look that I was looking for, the one pillow even says “Relax” which is exactly what walking into our room has me do.

Now onto mattress talk. Moving into this over 100 year old farm house, I knew we needed to downsize from a king to a queen because in older homes like ours, the bedrooms were much smaller. So, we began our search for mattresses. We initially used our old spare room bed and had plans to find a new one for the spare room in this house. I was lucky enough to have an opportunity to partner with Purple on the original Purple Mattress for the guest space.

However, when we took it upstairs, Jay fell in love with it and said we needed to have it come downstairs. So we swapped out the mattresses and he instantly slept like a baby. It took me a solid two weeks to get used to but now, y’all, I can’t even sit on my bed in the middle of the day because it sucks me in. It speaks to my soul and literally tells me to lay down on it and well, if I oblige then I’m out of commission for a good 40 minutes ha! I love that the mattress is made in the USA and uses Purple Grid Technology- look into that, its amazing!

As for the rest of the room, I wanted to keep the design simple. I had used the sconces I DIYd a few years ago for the old house and placed them on either side of my favorite mirror I bought from the World Market Friends & Family sale. Simple plants, some cool light sconces and built in shelves in place of a nightstand are all in the works for the room too!

I’ll be sure to update with progress over the next couple of months, so be sure to check back!
