Summer on the farm- we’ve got to enjoy one full month of the summer season! I can’t believe we are two days away from fall, y’all! I’m ready for cooler weather but I will so miss summer! Picnics, fresh wildflowers, the smell of hot soil after a summer shower and of course a cold glass of JaM Cellars after a hard day’s work in the garden!

One thing I had no idea about prior to moving to the farm and learning more about gardening, is that there is so much work to be done in the fall to prepare for the spring and summer flower and crops. We are in the beginning phases of mapping it all out and it’s been so much fun, it’s really making it feel like summer is here to stay! The funny thing is, while I’m outside planting and watering, leaves are falling from the trees. It’s bizarre!

Lately, one thing we’ve really enjoyed doing is getting on the 4-wheeler and riding the property to gather wildflowers. It’s really inspired me and helped me to envision what it will be next summer! We’ve decided on different wildflower seeds that we will spread in the front fields so I can have fresh, beautiful flowers all season long. In the back yard, we’ve begun planting bulbs that we can see in the spring and summer. I haven’t even had the change to start mapping out our summer veggies, so you’ll have to stay tuned for that post! But over the last few decades, there is a huge area that was used for vegetables and the soil is so incredibly rich! My dreams of homesteading are so close to being a reality.

It’s been great how much moving to the farm has improved our quality of life. After long days, we like to throw out a blanket in the yard or relax on the porch swing. We sip wine, have a little snack and watch the kids run, wild and free, while we talk about life. During this seasonal transition, when the nights are cool after a day that was so warm, I like to relax with a really great red.

Lately, I’ve been hooked on JaM Cabernet. I love to drink it chilled because it really is SUPER hot, so I tend to keep a couple of bottles in the fridge! This killer JaM Cab has such an amazing flavor profile, y’all- blackberries, black plums, black currant- this Cab is all about that fruit! Lush berries finished off with some delicious notes of vanilla really make this JaM perfect for this summer to fall transition!

And after the long days in the garden I’ve been enjoying taking a break with the Butter Chardonnay. I mean, the name has the word Butter in it, which is really all you need to read to know it’s amazing- everything is better with Butter, right? Especially a long, sweltering day! Butter Chardonnay is so rich and so bold. If stone fruit and baked lemon notes with a smooth vanilla finish doesn’t sound irresistible to you then I don’t really know if we can be friends!

I really can’t wait to share our garden update with you! Grab your Butter or JaM and enjoy this first weekend of fall, y’all! Cheers!
