Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE TACOS! There is no way I’m alone on that, right? Are you craving tacos yet? What makes the perfect taco in my opinion? Why, that’s easy – the tortillas!
I’m currently working on bringing you an AWESOME post on easy one pot and one pan meals and last night was Chicken Tacos in the crock pot. Store bought tortillas would obviously make it truly one pot BUT I also thought it was a good time to introduce my homemade tortillas recipe!
Flour tortillas that you find at the store are so thick and contain more than the 4 ingredients it takes to make mine!
First step is to mix 2 cups of flour and 1/2 tsp of salt. Then add 3 tablespoons of oil ( I used olive oil for this batch, but usually use avocado oil) or melted butter. Start to mix (with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula) and slowly add 3/4 cup of room temperature water.
Allow the dough to rest for 15 minutes or so.
Cut the dough into 8 pieces and roll them into balls.
Flatten the balls with the palm of your hand and roll them out. You want them to be super thin. Notice in the picture you can almost see the marble countertop through the rolled out tortillas? That is what you want to go for!
Continue rolling until all of the balls of dough are complete.
Heat a skillet to medium heat. Make sure the skillet is HOT before you put the tortillas on it. I use my favorite grill pan (Le Creuset from Williams- Sonoma) because it adds pretty lines as they cook and well, pretty food just tastes better, right?
Cook on one side until the tortillas are no longer see-through.
Flip over and cook on the opposite side just until it looks done on that side. Repeat with all tortillas.
Congratulations, y’all! You’ve just made tortillas from scratch!
Now serve these bad boys up all warm and fresh and stuff ’em with your favorite filling and bask in your awesomeness- you deserve it!
- 2 Cups Flour
- 1/2 Tsp Salt
- 3 Tbs Oil or Butter
- 3/4 Cup Water
- Mix together flour and salt
- Add oil and stir using a silicone spatula or wooden spoon
- Slowly mix in water
- Heat a skillet to Med
- Once skillet is hot, add tortillas one at a time
- Cook on one side until tortillas are no longer translucent, then flip
- Cook on other side until it starts to get a golden color
- Repeat with all tortillas
